Description
Teledyne Electronic Safety Products Emergency Escape Sequencing System Tester (EESST) was designed to test the Emergency Escape Sequencing System (EESS) on the F-22 aircraft. The EESST is an alternating current (AC) powered unit and is designed to safely permit detection and isolation of all system faults on the EESS. The fail safe design, in addition to tester self-test, provides a wrap-around test capability for fault detection of test cables and sequencer electronics. The EESST displays all faults or out of tolerance conditions to the operator to direct necessary maintenance, repair or disposition. The EESST will not inadvertently fire or initiate any EESS component. It also provides personnel safety during all tests. The EESST consists of two cases 2ft x 2ft x 2ft. One case houses the electronics (flight line case), the power cord and the flight line cable for on-aircraft, go-nogo testing. The other case (maintenance case) houses the test cables, shorting plugs, and jumper cables for maintenance and fault isolation.
System Advantage
The EESST is the first in its class that provides the ability to check and detect all system faults in the escape system without disconnecting any components including the ElectroExplosive Devices (EEDs). It was designed using Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) components making it economically feasible and providing protection from military parts obsolescence.
Testability
The EESST is equipped with a Built-In Test (BIT), which provides 100% functional fault detection. The Built-In Test is initiated when power is first applied. System level testing is only permitted after a successful self test.
